It is hard to visit Washington DC without noticing the Washington Monument. On Saturday, April 1st, they had handed out all of the tickets in less than 30 minutes. It would have been nice going to the top and seeing the cherry blossoms blooming.

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is on the edge of the Tidal Basin. I was able to get some pictures of the memorial at sunrise on March 27th and again on April 1st.

The George Mason Memorial is located in a small park behind the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. The memorial is easily missed. Fans of the George Mason Men's Basketball team beat me to the memorial and had left a sign saying "Final Four".

The FDR Memorial is a large memorial along the bank of the Tidal Basin. It is made up of four "rooms" with each one focusing on one of the four terms FDR was in office.

National World War II Memorial is located on the National Mall in Washington, DC between the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial. It commemorates the sacrifice and celebrates the victory of the WWII generation.

The newspaper indicated that more than half of the cherry trees are in Hains Point/East Potomac Park. Since I had the time and had never visited Hains Point, I drove through the park on Monday, March 27th. Like the Tidal Basin, the cherry trees were just beginning to bloom. I stopped to take a few pictures of a unique statue called "The Awakening"

On Saturday, April 1st, I decided to walk towards the Lincoln Memorial to see it along with the Korean War and Vietnam War memorials.

The Korean Veterans War Memorial features nineteen soldiers wearing ponchos on patrol heading up hill. Granite slabs on the ground in front of each soldier represent obstacles the soldier had to overcome. A highly polished granite wall known as the "wall of faces" reflects the soldiers.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial includes the wall, the Three Servicemen statue and the Vietnam Women's Memorial.
