The other day, I decided to try something new, ride my unicycle all of the way around the block. Let me say, my block is bigger than I thought. There was a time when Buddy and I could walk around the block in less than six minutes. Near the end, it could take closer to 20 minutes. But, not wanting to take the walk to the mailbox alone, I decided to pull out my unicycle. I had ridden straight to the mailbox and back home once or twice before deciding to try riding home the long way around the block.

The other day I started listening to Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince on CD. I listened to it last year, but decided to listen again since the movie is coming out this summer. Normally, I save the long books like Harry Potter for long car trips, but earlier this year, I listened to Eragon on CD when I went to Circus Magic. The book was longer than the trip and I spent the next week listening to the CD while driving around town.

I marched in the Falls Church Memorial Day parade with my friends and fellow clowns from Just Clowning Around of Northern Virginia (JCA). It was a fun parade.
One of the clowns suggested I bring my smart fortwo to the parade.
I went to Party City to find a few flags and other decorations for my car. I found a great inflatable drink cooler and thought it would make a nice hat for my car. I didn’t know how I was going to attach it until I got there. Luckily, it worked nicely. I think I can use a few more things for the next parade.
Buddy was my friend for more than 10 years, but to my surprise, I don’t really have a lot of pictures of him. I guess that is partly because he was at home when I went out. I have a picture of him on my phone. Last fall, I got a new phone just before going on vacation. Since Buddy had his picture on my last phone, I decided to take his picture while we were on a walk before leaving.
I still find myself thinking of Buddy from time to time. There are a lot of reminders around the house. I have done some general cleaning, but haven’t done anything with his toys. They are still scattered around the house. A just opened bag of dog food sits in the corner of the kitchen.

It is getting easier, but my thoughts still return to Bud. I got a nice surprise in the mail yesterday, a card from the vet’s office. At first, I set it aside thinking that I didn’t want to see what they had to say. When I opened it, I found a paw print of Buddy along with his (estimated) birth date and date of death. That hit me… In all of the years, I never once considered making a paw print or casting his print in plaster. The print wasn’t very high quality, but what do you expect. I am sure it is better when you can get them actually walking over the paper.
I feel a little guilty planning all of the things I can now do like an overnight trip to one of the theme parks that is further away.
When Buddy was young, we would go on long walks and sometimes run for a block or two along the way. It has been a few years since we were able to run. Recently, our walks would take 15 minutes, but we would go the distance that we could once go in two or three minutes. A month ago, we were making it around the block in 15-20 minutes. I am going to miss going for walks with Buddy. We took at least 3 walks a day. Unless I want to gain 20 pounds by the end of the year, I will need to find a way to get the equivalent exercise.
