Last night, I went to see Septime Webre’s version of The Nutcracker Ballet at the Warner Theatre in Washington, DC. Although The Nutcracker is very much a part of the US Christmas tradition, this was my first time seeing The Nutcracker. It was also my first time seeing a ballet. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Am I stuck in the past traditions of Christmas? A month ago, I went out to buy a few boxes of Christmas cards to mail to my family and friends. I have mailed out cards for the past several years, but each year, I get one card in the mail for every two or three cards sent. I like sending the cards and enjoy finding them in my mailbox, but it takes a lot of time and effort.

On Saturday, I was surprised by a piece of mail from the DMV. It was the title of my 2004 Chevy Trailblazer. I had been paying an extra $50 each month when I sent in my car payment. In November, I was curious to know how much money I still owed and called up the bank’s account information line. The balance was less than two payments. I didn’t have the money to pay in full, so I sent in my regular payment. They sent me a statement that showed my final payment and at the beginning of December, I mailed it in.

It snowed today for the first time this season. And, the first dusting of snow was enough to bring the traffic DC roads to a crawl. I started planning this BLOG entry last night. I grew up in Chicago, where it takes at least 5 inches of snow before causing problems. When I moved to Fairfax, VA, I learned that this area is different.
