Rollover Ads

Filed under: Websites, Life in General — Mike @ 8:10 am

I hate rollover ads. Let me say that again, I hate rollover ads.

I know that it is unlikely that we will ever get to the day when the Internet is ad free. But it seems like companies are making ever more desparate attempts to force people to see their ads. Websites still have the much hated popup or pop under ads. But for me, one of the most annoying is the rollover ads. The problem, in my opinion is that they are too easy to trigger and too hard to dismiss. As the ad grows to fill the page, there is very little room to move the mouse that is not ontop of the ad. And some will be triggered as the page loads and not be dismissed even though the mouse is NOT over the ad. It takes too much effort to find ways to close the ads.

Starting a new blog

Filed under: entertainment, Websites, Life in General — Mike @ 8:01 am

Last year, I registered several domain names with the hopes of using them to build new websites. I had some good ideas but lacked the momentum needed to get the projects started. Years ago, I started to play around with PHP/MySQL in hopes that I could design a simple database engine that would make maintaining website content easier. The one drawback with a database is the fact that to be of most value, the data needs to be well formed and entered into separate fields in the database.

My Twenty, ten, five

Filed under: Clown, entertainment, Websites, Life in General, eLearning — Mike @ 10:35 pm

OK, I just thought that sounded good. It is really my top 5 items that I feel I need to accomplish in 2010. Really, there are many more, but I need to start somewhere. I am not one to make New Year Resolutions. So here they are:

  1. Start making money
  2. Clean the house
  3. Get Organized
  4. Learn how to juggle clubs
  5. Learn how to walk on stilts

It seems like my friends are much more into watching videos on YouTube than I am. They post links to videos they found and think others will like all the time. I have created a few videos of my own and posted them on YouTube, but I really haven’t spent a lot of time watching other people’s videos.

On Unemployment….

Filed under: Volunteer, Clown, Websites, Life in General, Friends, Acting, eLearning — Mike @ 9:26 am

OK, I have been avoiding this… Yes, I am currently¬†unemployed. I don’t know all the details, but my last employer went out of business. We were told on August 19th and sent home that same day.

For a long time, I used my day job as an excuse for not being able to spend more time working as a clown or an actor. But, now I have the time on my hand and don’t have any jobs as a clown or actor. I have the time to put together a Birthday party show, learn a few more balloons, and practice some magic tricks. I can also put together some headshots and marketing materials. But all of this takes time and money and doesn’t bring in a paycheck right away. I just don’t feel that I am at a point where I am ready to be able to do clowning full time and make enough money to cover the expenses.

My other side business for the past year has been developing websites. I have had my own websites for a few years and seem to add one or two each year. I have not been paid as a website developer as I am either working for myself or volunteering my services to the group. I have started talking with a few friends about creating or updating their website. I see this as one possible option for income until I can get my clown business off the ground.

But, since I need the money, I am also looking for a full time position. I know that there is a chance this will mean that I will actually have less free time for clowning and acting than I had with my last job.

Only time will tell what happens next.

So if you are interested in hiring a clown, actor, website developer, or eLearning developer, I am available.

Configuring a computer…

Filed under: Websites, Life in General — Mike @ 9:31 am

My Gateway desktop computer wouldn’t boot after I returned from Moose Camp. I did get it to turn on once, but that was it. I could probably get it working again if I replaced the CPU or motherboard, or put the drive in one of my other, older computers. But, I decided the quickest solution was to get a new computer. I purchased a new Gateway computer from BJ’s on Sunday.
